Terry G. Davis
Executive M.B.A., ‘08
Terry Davis, a member of the first graduating class of Auburn
Montgomery’s Executive M.B.A. program, is the managing partner in the law firm
of Davis and Hatcher, LLC, with offices in Montgomery and Atlanta.
A practicing attorney for more than 20 years, Davis specializes in
the areas of business, employment, government, information technology and the
Internet. He has represented clients ranging from start-up companies to
governmental agencies to large corporate entities. Most notably, he served as
the chief business strategist and legal advisor to Digital Seas International,
a Montgomery-based company that partnered with MTN Satellite Communications and
was the first to bring Internet connectivity to international cruise lines in
the late 1990s, and the services are still in use by most major cruise lines
today.
It was that interest in business law and consulting that led him
to earn the Executive M.B.A. in 2008, and he continues to use those skills as
he works with local companies and small and medium-sized businesses across the
country.
Davis shares his experience and passion with new business leaders
of the River Region through the Entrepreneurial University at the Montgomery
Small Business Resource Center, where he has been a guest instructor since the
university’s inception in 1996. For both the center and others he frequently
conducts seminars and appears as a guest speaker on topics such as how to
start, operate and finance a successful business and the art of contract
negotiation.
He also has served on numerous corporate boards in the banking and
insurance industries and currently is a member of the boards of directors for
both the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce and Envision 2020. He is a former
president of Leadership Montgomery and a graduate of Leadership Alabama.
"I have a passion for helping people and helping the city grow,”
Davis said. "That’s why I have been involved in a number of charitable and
civic activities – wanting to see our city and state be the best places they
can be.”
That desire to give back also has led him to serve as president of
the local boards of the Heart Association and the Montgomery Ballet and as a
volunteer for the United Way. As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society
recently, he was among the "rats” for the society’s Biggest Rat in Town
fundraiser.
In addition to his Auburn Montgomery degree, Davis earned an
undergraduate degree from Alabama State University in 1976 and graduated from
Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham in 1979.
